Since news broke that DC Comics/Warner Bros. had announced their plans to film a Suicide Squad film, a number of actresses were being touted for the role of Amanda Waller, DC Comics tough as nails Superspy. Among them were Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis and Oprah Winfrey, who for a time was considered the front runner. Now, according to sources close to the project it appears Viola Davis has emerged as the actress chosen for the role in David Ayer’s upcoming big screen adaptation.

On a personal note, I for one am extremely excited about this development and think that Viola Davis is a perfect fit for the role. If her work on “How To Get Away With Murder” is any indication, she has just the right balance of take charge, no nonsense presence to excel as Amanda Waller. For those unfamiliar with the character, she debuted in a DC Comics mini-series titled “Legends” back in 1986 and has been featured prominently throughout the DC Comics Universe in various comics, film and TV adaptations, most notably on the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series.
