Now that we’ve reached the mid-season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Marvel has announced that the TV Show and the feature film will be connected, I have come to some conclusions as to direction thing are going and how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Avengers: Age of Ultron will tie-in to each other.
Since the existence of the
Inhumans has been established in AoS (re: Temple of Randec, Terrigen Crystals, etc…) and there is a strong connection between Whitehall and Strucker, it stands to reason that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are Inhumans, as opposed to mutants (since Fox owns the rights to all things Mutant).
I think that Marvel is going to use the Inhuman bloodline to introduce characters who aren’t directly associated with The X-Men, but are classified as mutants nonetheless. This opens up the door for various other characters to appear in the MCU.
The finale also established Skye as Daisy Johnson aka Quake and her father as Dr. Calvin Zabo aka Mr. Hyde. This revelation is AWESOME news to me, because it opens up the doors to endless possibilities to develop these characters through the various films, TV shows, etc… which Marvel is producing over the next few years. In the comics, the Mr. Hyde character has gone up against: Thor, Captain America & Falcon, Daredevil and Spider-Man. I would like to see Mr. Hyde “Vogue” and appear on the Netflix Daredevil show.
Since the Terrigen Crystals exist and when those with Kree blood are exposed to the mists created by them gain superhuman abilities and may also morph into strange looking beings, we can now see how Marvel could introduce other characters such as:
- Tigra (There is speculation that Raina is in fact the MCU version of this character)
- Firebird
- Living Lightning
- Firestar (I’m not sure if Fox has the rights to her or not)
This could also help to explain the origin of Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers in the upcoming Marvel film. Since the Kree have now been established as an alien race of considerable power and galactic influence, it isn’t too far of a leap to think that maybe in Phase 4, a Kree/Skrull (Chitauri) War will come to fruition. If the Avengers: Infinity War and Guardians of the Galaxy movies are any indication, Marvel is reaching out to establish their cosmic characters in the MCU.
Something else to consider is that the Ant-Man film will introduce Pym Particles in the MCU, which could open up the possibility for Goliath aka Bill Foster to appear in the future. This character appeared in the comic book version of Civil War and proved to be a pivotal character to the story arc. I don’t really think that we will see this character fully developed by the time the film is released. Although, it would be interesting (at least to me) if this character showed up on AoS and was developed there first and then showed up in the Civil War film. Alas, only time will tell.
The timeline of the films and TV shows will play a critical part in the build up to Captain America: Civil War, with the introduction of characters who will comprise the Captain America Team and the Iron-Man Team. Here is what the team might look like:
Captain America Team
- Luke Cage
- Iron Fist
- Daredevil
- Jessica Jones
- Falcon
- Nick Fury
- Quicksilver
- Scarlet Witch
Iron Man Team
- Black Widow
- Hawkeye
- Maria Hill
- Captain Marvel
- Wasp
- Ant-Man
- Vision
- War Machine
Note, I omitted quite a few characters from the comics who are members of the Fantastic Four, The X-Men or who haven’t been or won’t be introduced to the MCU by the release of the film. Of course there will be deviations from the comics in the films and TV shows, so I’m looking forward to seeing how Marvel handles this and the official roster for the Captain America and Iron-Man teams.
There are also speculations that a West Coast Avengers roster will be formed. I do think that based on what Marvel has said about the Avengers roster changing (which it did often in the comics) and that the upcoming Civil War will divide the characters, it is a possibility.
A possible roster for a West Coast Avengers in the MCU may include:
- Iron Man or War Machine
- Hawkeye
- Mockingbird
- Tigra (if introduced)
- Ant-Man/Wasp
- Scarlet Witch
- Quicksilver
- Vision
If this, or something similar is the case a NEW East Coast based roster may look like this:
- Captain America
- Thor
- Black Widow
- Hulk
- Wonder Man (if introduced)
- Falcon
- Black Panther
Since at the end of Captain America: TWS, we see Cap and the Falcon taking off on a quest to find The Winter Soldier, I can see Civil War possibly setting up the events of “The Death of Captain America” as it was laid out in the comics. This would lead to Bucky aka The Winter Soldier, taking over the mantle of Captain America from Steve Rogers, maybe at the end of the film or at least by the end of Avengers: Infinity War I & II.
As a result of all that has occurred and been revealed so far, the following is what I’d like to see as a fan:
- The introduction of the following characters:
- Simon Williams aka Wonder Man – This character is a powerhouse who becomes an important member of the Avengers and of the Marvel Universe in general.
- Greer Grant aka Tigra – This is a fun character who adds a lot of sexuality to the Avengers. It would also be nice to have more female characters on the team.
- Marc Spector aka Moon Knight – This character would be a GREAT bridge between the Superhero world, the street level hero world and the supernatural world. It would be cool to usher other characters such as Blade, The Living Mummy, Dracula, Ghost Rider, Werewolf By Night and Frankenstein into the fold, name a few.
- Ant-Man’s integration into the MCU. I think that even though we’re dealing with the Scott Lang character in the role, as opposed to Hank Pym, this would be a way to introduce offshoot characters into the MCU such as: Bill Foster aka Goliath, Hope Van Dyne aka Wasp and Cassie Lang aka Stature.
In conclusion, I think that Marvel has a long and exciting road ahead. It will be very interesting to see how they play things out and the timeline they follow. It has been a childhood dream of mine to see these characters portrayed properly on the BIG and small screens and so far Marvel hasn’t scratched too terribly yet. Maybe Avengers: Infinity War I & II will give us a film with everyone in it…only time will tell.
EXCELSIOR TRUE BELIEVERS!
