CBS and Warner Bros have put the “Supergirl” pilot into production. The studios have just released the first two images of series star Melissa Benoist in full costume as DC Comics’ Supergirl!
One image depicts a bodyshot of Benoist as Supergirl in full costume and the other is a headshot:
Oscar Award winning costume designer, Colleen Atwood, is in charge of the Supergirl costuming. She also designed costumes for “The Flash” and “Arrow.”
There are noticeable similarities in the new “Supergirl” costume, which closely aligns with classic visual depictions of the character. The cape, “S” symbol, boots and red skirt are all in place, however the colors are slightly muted, very much like the Flash’s TV costume. The costume is also more conservative than recent comic book adaptations, as there is no visible midriff, and tights have been added.
The “Supergirl” TV series was greenlit by CBS back in September. Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, the producers of the hit TV show Arrow, are both on board as executive producers, along with Ali Adler and Sarah Schechter. Glen Winter is charged with directing the pilot.
Please comment with your thoughts on the costume and the series as a whole!
