Hey all! It would appear that based on this NEW poster for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., that the head of the mysterious “REAL” S.H.I.E.L.D. is Robert Gonzales aka Edward James Olmos!

It is my theory that the remainder of this season will be a set up for an adaptation of the Secret Warriors story line from the comics. There are several bullet points from this season and from other developments within the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, which lead me to this line of speculation and there are as follows:

1) In the comics, the Secret Warriors were a group of agents hand picked and trained by Nick Fury after S.H.I.E.L.D was discredited when it was learned that HYDRA had been secretly running things all along, he was removed as Director and was forced to go underground. This mirrors the events of Captain America: Winter Soldier and its aftermath.
2) In the comics, Fury provided support to the reformed Winter Soldier and allowed Captain America and his followers to use one of his safe houses as a base during Civil War. In the upcoming Captain America: Civil War film, this would be a great way to develop elements from the comics into the film and explain how Cap’s team is being funded and kept hidden from this “REAL” S.H.I.E.L.D., which I suspect will be backing Iron Man and his team.
3) What I don’t expect to happen (although I’d love to see it just the same) is for there to be a Secret Invasion story arc running through Marvel’s AoS in the year after Captain America: Civil War. Even though this is when in the comics it is discovered that the Skrulls have replaced several characters within the Marvel Universe and Fury is prompted to assemble the Secret Warriors in Earth’s defense.
4) In the comics, Daisy Johnson aka Quake, is the field leader of the Secret Warriors. This is interesting as it relates to Marvel’s AoS because of the recent revelation that Skye is Daisy Johnson on the show. With this development, it wouldn’t be too far of a stretch to have the Secret Warriors story line run through the show’s next season, leading up to the release of Captain America: Civil War next year.

I suspect that there will be plenty of substitutions in regards to character roles which will deviate from the comics for various reasons. One, is that instead of Fury directly forming the Secret Warriors team, he will likely do so through Coulson. This would make sense given that Coulson is the current director of Fury’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Also, I think that the two S.H.I.E.L.D. factions will be divided even further once the Super Human Registration Act is passed after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron. This will probably lead to Maria Hill siding with Iron Man (as she works for him now) and the “REAL” S.H.I.E.L.D., while Coulson sides with Fury and Captain America.
